New Haven County resident Robert Harrington, age 55, of Milford, was sentenced on Wednesday, Dec. 22, to 72 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release, according to Leonard Boyle, acting United States attorney for the District of Connecticut.
In January of 2019, Homeland Security Investigations received information from Canadian and Australian law enforcement that two usernames associated with an IP address in Harrington's residence were sending and receiving images through an online application that depicted the sexual abuse of girls, Boyle said.
Investigators searched Harrington's home on May 15, 2019, and they seized his tablet computer, which contained images and videos of child sexual abuse, the US Attorney's Office reported.
The US Attorney's Office said Harrington has been detained since he was arrested on the day his home was searched.
Harrington pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography on July 21, Boyle said.
The US Attorney's Office said Homeland Security Investigations was assisted by the following agencies:
- The Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team
- South Australia Police
- Australian Federal Police
- The Royal Canadian Mounted Police
